About Miramar
 
“Miramar” which translates to “a view of the sea” has a population of 6,515 and was named by Edward W. Scripps in the 1890’s after the Archduke Maximilian’s castle Miramare in Italy. The name eventually spread throughout the area and stuck. 
 
In the early 1950’s Miramar was a small, isolated community built around a railroad station. Today it’s a small family friendly, peaceful and well-maintained community just north of the military base. 
 
Scripps Miramar Ranch and Miramar Ranch North, are  central to surrounding neighborhoods and sub-communities which includes: Mira Mesa, Carmel Valley, University Village and Kearny Mesa. 
 
Today the area consists of approximately fourteen million square feet of warehouse, office and retail-related space bordered by popular neighborhoods with many amenities nearby. 
 
Interesting Fact: Miramar was the original site of the real TOPGUN which was later made famous by the blockbuster hit of the 80’s.
