The discovery of fresh-water similar to that found in the most renowned spas around the world lead to the naming of Carlsbad in the 1880s (named after Karlsbad in the Czech Republic). 
 
Soon after the naming of the town a major marketing campaign was created to attract visitors and Carlsbad soon became an area of growth, with homes and businesses sprouting up everywhere. 
 
Today the city has a population just over 112,000 and has been labeled one of the richest cities in California and is still a thriving tourist destination. 
 
In 2013, Google named Carlsbad the digital capital of California with the strongest online business community. Its also known as the “Titanium Valley” because it’s the golf manufacturing capital of the world.
